Travel Guide: Aspen, Colorado
I have always had a pull to the state of Colorado, and I could never understand why because I am definitely not a snow bunny. The last person you would see on the slopes, I’m either enjoying a nice cocktail at the base of the mountain, or I am at home cooking up a storm for the hungry skiers and snowboarders I call my friends and family.
For as long as I can remember my family and I have gone up to Aspen, Colorado every year for the holidays and sometimes for the summer. Truly breathtaking there is something so magical in the air. I guess that magic worked it’s charm because I not only fell in love with the state of Colorado, I fell in love with a man from Colorado.
Falling in love with him has been my greatest adventure yet. Recently we embarked on another adventure, a road trip from Colorado to California. Where we stopped in Aspen, Colorado along the way because he wanted to show me the beauty of the seasons changing. Having visited Aspen most of my life, I didn’t think I would learn or see anything new. Boy, was I wrong. My boyfriend said to me,
“have you ever seen the Aspen leaves change?”
I responded, “No, I actually haven’t”
He smiled at me and said,
” I can’t wait to share with you my favorite memories I had as a child watching the leaves change and see natures beauty through your eyes, this is my favorite time of year. “
I had no idea what beauty I had waiting for me. I thought I was in love with the state before, my heart couldn’t help but melt into the vibrant colors, whispers of the cool breeze brushing through the leaves.
On our drive to Aspen, we stopped to take photos, it felt like we stepping into a painting.
Of course, the next day when we had the day to take in the town it rained but that did not stop us!
There are so many wonderful things to do, see and take a bite out of in Aspen.
Here are some of our favorite places to eat while we are in Aspen.
EAT
Jimmy’s Bodega– We have been there once before and couldn’t wait to go back. Delicious seafood, incredible drinks and affordably priced, we love starting our night out here.
Mi Chola– We both love a good margarita and some delicious Mexican food! We stumbled upon Mi Chola on our last trip out to Aspen and definitely wanted to go back. They have a Prickly Pear Margarita that is out of this world. Did I mention they evenh= have a shotski!
Aspen Over Easy – Our goto spot for a hearty breakfast, get there early there is always a wait!
Peach– One of our favorite coffee shops in Aspen, always filled with locals you definitely feel like you are in the know! Sadly they are not open on Sundays!
Stay
The Little Neil– In the heart of the town, The Little Neil is perfect for those who love to be close to the mountain and those who want to be close to the shops!
Hotel Jerome – A staple in Aspen, The Hotel Jerome is filled with history and incredible decor and is walking distance to the main streets of Aspen!
You can also always AirB&B it as well.
Do
Shops: Rag & Bone, Free People, Kemo Sabe, Ralph Lauren, Sugar Sweet Clothing, etc.
Activities: Depending on what time of year you decided to visit Aspen, you can do fun activities like skiing, sledding, hiking, mountain biking. However, if you can visit the Maroon Bells when it is still open to the public, I highly suggest you do. I have never experienced a place like it in my life!
