I Put Coconut Oil In My Coffee For A Month And This Is What I Found.
Inspired to put coconut oil in my coffee by one of my best girlfriend’s Elise an expert fitness trainer and life enthusiast. I gave myself 30 days to try it out and see if I could not only stick with it but see if I could notice a difference both mentally and physically. Today on The Modern Day Girlfriend, I share both my results as well as some basic pros and cons of coconut oil and which one is the best to use in your coffee!
Did you know that putting virgin coconut oil in your morning cup of coffee can help not only boost your energy levels but can work wonders on your digestive system, and more?
Thanks to the healthy saturated fats that coconut oil contains it is great for boosting fat burning, providing both your body and your brain with quick energy.
Benefits Of Coconut Oil In Your Coffee
Adding coconut oil is something Elise has been doing for a while. I had tried it once before when that whole bulletproof fad was going around and let me tell you, I didn’t know what I was doing back then and I almost didn’t make it the bathroom 1-3 times. If you have tried the BulletProof Brain Octane before you know what I am talking about!
Anyways back to the point, Elise told me how she makes hers, sometimes you can make it with just coffee and coconut oil of you can make it with coconut oil, coffee, and ghee. As I don’t like ghee at all, I decided I would try it out with just virgin coconut oil so that’s what I have been doing every morning for the last month! Below I share my experience with drinking if for the last month as well as some of the health benefits!
Before I get into the “how-to” of it all I wanted to break down a few things first. First I am not a doctor, I am only sharing my own personal experience as well as basic information I know about the ingredients and their health benefits, that I have learned throughout the process and my readings of nutrition, health, and wellness.
Second, there are two types of coconut oil, refined and unrefined.
A super-easy way to tell the two apart rather than just reading the label is that refined coconut oil is more of a solid at room temperature and becomes liquid when it is warmer. It also typically doesn’t smell or have the flavor of coconut.
Now, unrefined coconut oil stays a liquid at room temperature because it is not hydrogenated. It also has more coconut flavor which means it has more nutrients like MCT which contains more antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties! Coconut oil, in general, is also thought to help raise the HDL cholesterol in your blood. which is known to be useful in reducing the risk of heart disease.
Since adding coconut oil to my coffee, I have found that I have an added boost in my concentration, energy, and it has also helped me with my sugar cravings at the end of the day. I know that may seem weird because I drink the coffee so early in the morning but I truly noticed when I start my day with a healthy fat like coconut oil in my coffee it really helped curb cravings, I noticed that I stopped snacking as often throughout the day and felt fuller longer too.
Below I share the super simple recipe of the coffee and coconut oil, I just want to mention there are some side effects of drinking coconut oil that is worth mentioning. First and foremost make sure you are not allergic to coconut oil. Check with your doctor if you are unaware of an allergy to coconuts. Secondly,
“What scientists and medical professionals do know is that coconut oil is mostly saturated fat and, like other fats in this category, should be consumed in moderation to avoid negative effects on the cardiovascular system. Coconut oil can raise “good” cholesterol, but it also increases “bad” (LDL) cholesterol.” – livestrong.com
After drinking coconut oil for a month and enjoying the benefits, I have switched it up to maybe every other day or every three days. I do have other coffee drinks I like to make and drink as well, like my Black Pepper Turmeric Latte and a Cinnamon Honey Latte that also have their own health benefits. I will share those recipes here too!
Ready for the recipe finally! This “recipe” is so easy to do, you just blend your virgin organic coconut oil and your coffee in a blender for like 30 -45 seconds and enjoy!
How much of each you ask, for every ONE cup of coffee, put 1 Tsp of coconut oil!
