Sometimes as women we have to take things into our own hands, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Being single in the digital generation can be tricky yet empowering. Even though online dating has been around for a couple years now, mobile apps have changed the way we are navigate the waters to find true love.
That’s why for this Friday Favorite I am sharing three of my top picks for dating apps. These apps are not only created for women, but also are created by women. Take a peek!
Bumble
Bumble was created by one of the female founders of Tinder, a well-known dating app. Bumble, however, is much different than Tinder. First off, women have to initiate conversation with any guy they match with and have to do so within 24 hours. Second, men have one chance ever to extend a woman’s 24-hour window to contact them. If you get notified that a guy has extended the contact period, feel flattered because he had to choose wisely and he chose you. On Bumble, if you are looking to date a member of your same sex there is no rule about who can send the first chat. Bumble also just introduced photo messaging, but don’t worry all photos are watermarked with the user’s name and face to prevent people from sending incriminating photos.
Pro: Bumble gives all power to the woman by allowing them to make the first move.
Coffee Meets Bagel:
Coffee Meets Bagel is a dating app that emphasizes quality over quantity. This app uses your Facebook information to match you with friends of friends. You get one match a day. If both parties decide they want the introduction, the app sends along a text message with an ice-breaker question to both. This app helps take away the pressure of initiating contact by offering a suggested question to get communication rolling.
Pro: The match options are fewer than other dating apps. Other apps give you unlimited potential daily matches. Getting only one match a day on Coffee Meets Bagel brings an old school vibe to this app because you aren’t being hit with the plethora of options synonomous with the digital age. However, you still get to know someone with a modern day twist via the ice breaker text. Additionally, you have an extra “life line” because this app matches you with someone who has mutual friends. Just reach out to your mutual pal and they will likely help you get answers about your match’s personality.
LULU
Lulu is a dating app that allows women to rate boyfriends, exes, and acquaintances — anonymously. They can rate men’s appearance, ambition level, and sexual performance, while including a review of best and worst personality points.
Pro: Okay, so not really a dating app, but an app none the less! It’s one large group chat for women to come together and look out for one another!
