5 Tips: How Not to Lose Yourself In A Relationship
Remember you had a life before you met them and whether it works out or not you will continue to have a life with them or without them. Here are a very simple ways not to loose yourself in a relationship.
1. Go out with your friends without your partner: Everyone has a busy schedule but if you can try and plan a time with your friends to get together once every two weeks or a month. This is also a great way to keep in contact and not lose touch what is going on in your friends life. This to0 allows your partner to reconnect with friends, remember you two had separate worlds before you met each other.
2. Find your own hobbies: As couples we tend to think that we have to “love” what the other person loves & that is not the case. Of course you want to be supportive and encourage each other, but let your partner have something that they love to call their own. This is a great communication tool as well it allows you to continue to learn about the other person by what they did, created, etc with their hobby.
3. Hold back from checking in constantly: Find something to disconnect with, reading a book, cleaning, getting your nails, done etc and put your phone away. Take the time for yourself to be alone with your thoughts not only disconnecting from your partners but the world around you. In today’s society where we are constantly moving, going and being connected this is a great way to just “connect” with yourself. You will thank yourself later that you did!
4. Try new things: Want to take a cooking class, take up painting, or start a new work out class, go ahead. In life you are constantly learning, its important to take the time to learn and grow. You never know what will inspire you and you can always share the experience with your partner later, remember you DON’T need to experience everything with your partner.
5. Voice your opinion: It is important to come to an agreement on the BIG issues in your relationship but when you are dealing with more trivial issues and something is important to you don’t lose your voice. Explain why you feel the way you do and why it is important to you, (calmly!)
