What’s Your Number & Does It Really Matter?

The other night, my best friend came over for some wine and a movie. We had no idea what we wanted to watch, but we knew we needed to see something that would make us laugh. As we caught up on each other’s lives, work, family, friends, and of course our love lives, we couldn’t stop laughing about the absurd situations we have gotten ourselves into. Neither one of us is a huge romantic comedy fan, but we felt in the spirit, so we put on “What’s Your Number” with Anna Farris and Chris Evans.
This film is a hysterical tale of a woman who reads a survey that warns her 96% of women who have been with 20 or more sexual partners are less likely to ever find a husband. Determined to prove the article wrong, she sets out to find her forever man from a group of her numerous exes, which makes for some cringe worthy, laugh out loud moments.

Watching this movie got me thinking, does the number of sexual partners that you or your significant other have slept with in the past effect your present? After asking my girl friends and my guy friends their opinions, here is the conclusion I have come up with. Do you agree?
- Your Past Is Your Past: You can never be in your PRESENT relationship if you are living in your past. One of the worst things you can do in any relationship is to live in yours or your significant other’s past. Neither one of you are there anymore, so let history stay in the past where it belongs.
- It Doesn’t Make You A Bad Person: Your number doesn’t change who you are, nor does it define who you.
- It’s Your Number: It’s your number to tell, no one else’s. If you don’t want to share it you don’t have to.
At the end of the day, your life is your story to tell. If it is important to your significant other to know how many people you have been with, then that is a conversation you should have. However, more often than not, guys don’t harp on the past or what you did before them. It really isn’t any of their business unless it effects their present, so remember that your number is your number and always use protection 😉 !
