My IVF Egg Retrieval Recovery Must-Haves

IVF Egg Retrieval Recovery Must-Haves the modern day girlfriend arianna salyards

I will admit I woke up very sore from my retrieval because a follicle or two wanted to play hard to get so there was a little more poking around than what was expected so when I woke up they just gave me some extra Tylenol and  I was good to go. I went home and just laid low to be honest for the next week and the items below really really helped me relax and heal. Hope they will be of help to you too!

1. Electrolytes

My husband and I were both extremely surprised when they told me for a week I could not drink any water, I then ask but what about coffee. All week leading up to the procedure I said to Neil all I want after it is a really good bagel and a coffee. Welp that didn’t happen. They want you to drink electrolytes drinks only like gatorade, pedialyte and even coconut water because. they don’t want you to develop Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). Electrolytes also help de-bloat which was welcomed! I really like the LMNT electrolytes because I would sprinkle it in through the day,  there is a lot in one packet so I stretched it longer BUT def make sure you put enough in and drink it. PS the watermelon flavor is next level!

2. Heating Pad

You will more than likely have cramps after your egg retrieval,  definitely feel a bit sore and bloated. I felt extremely bloated. For me I use a heating pad during my period as well, it just helps so much and it helped so much relieving the pain and cramps. Grab your heating pad here!

3. Stool Softener

Just in case, TMI but I didn’t need these as I have been taking a probiotic for years, I felt my movements were healthy normal and what they needed to be. I didn’t want to over do it and cause more stress on my body, however constipation can be an issue for some post-egg retrieval. Due to the  the sedatives they give you. during the egg retrieval procedure and if you are going straight into transfer you are going to start taking  progesterone that will also “clog” you up. Collace is the one my doctor recommended.

4. Support

You will need support whether that’s from your partner, family member or friend both emotionally and physically. Especially after your retrieval you aren’t allowed to pick. up anything over 10 pounds for a week and take it easy for 2 weeks so having a support person or team can be super helpful when it comes to things around the home, cooking meals etc.  You need to rest.

5. Comfy Clothes

Not only are you already bloated from the stimulation meds but you will feel even more bloated after your egg retrieval so you will want to wear loose clothing,  nothing tight!  I LIVED in my Cozy Earth sets.
