If you are single in today’s society, it is inevitable that you either have tried or will try online dating at least once. If this is not the case, you have probably been asked, “Why haven’t you tried online dating?” Whether it is just not your thing, or you just are unsure about taking that first step, I want to let you know that you are not alone.

When I first starting dating digitally, I thought meeting someone on the Internet or IPhone was just strange. Not to mention, I was a nervous wreck! The number of scenarios that went through my head could leave me day dreaming till the year 2020.

Easing into the whole digital dating world, I soon became what my friend’s like to call the “App Whisper.” I earned this title because of the number of connections and conversations I was having. Honestly, I had no idea what they were talking about. I was just being me. They kept asking me what I was doing and if I could help them with their profiles, so I did. Here are the tips I told them to help make their profiles stand out from the crowd!

1. Pictures: Take time and care about choosing not only your profile picture, but also when picking all the photos you put up. Typically on dating apps, people look at the photos first. Then, they look at the bio, so you want to have pictures that will make someone stop to learn more. This makes for a great talking point in later conversations.

•       Profile Picture Do’s: Smile and have the photo be of you doing something you love, or out at an event, sporting, etc.
•      Profile Picture Don’ts: No group shots!

2. What About You?: Make your bio genuine, interesting, engaging, and to the point! You don’t want to share your life story, but you don’t want to come off as uninteresting either. I say lead with the truth and end with a laugh. OOOO ya and spell-check!
3. Connecting To Conversation: Starting a conversation with someone you never have met generally is a little awkward, so depending on what site or app you are using don’t go for the generic questions. Try to spark a conversation that will make you stand out from other matches.

• Apps where women start the conversation: Check their photos and bio again. Find one thing that you can turn into a question. If he has a photo wearing his favorite sports team jersey, ask him about how they’re playing, etc.
• Apps where men start the conversation: The opening line is out of your control, but you can help steer the conversation in your favor by avoiding typical questions like “How was your day?” You can also use the same trick I list above and ask him about a photo in his profile.
